Summer Challenges

Well this weekend unofficially marked the beginning of summer here in Milwaukee. The husband and I went for a 8 mile walk yesterday and I think I saw more people out yesterday than I did all winter. But more on that in a different post. I saw Annemieke’s @ A Dance with Books post on her summer challenges and I really liked the idea of putting all my goals for the summer in writing. Especially since summer is without a doubt my most productive time of the year. So here they are:

The Comment Challenge

The Summer Comment Challenge is hosted by Lonna @ FLYLēF and Alicia @ A Kernel of Nonsense. The goal is to connect with other bloggers by commenting on a certain number of their blog posts. You have an option of commenting 5 or 10 times throughout the month. The challenge runs June through August and you sign up at the end of the month for the next. When I signed up I wasn’t sure I would be able to commit to 10 blog posts/month so I signed up for 5. We found out who our partner for June is going to be and I’m with Brittaina @ tanyascreams. She has an awesome post about Sherlock Holmes Day Here that you should definitely go check out! (Who knew there was a specific day for SH? I certainly did not!) So my challenge is to comment on her posts and 3 others at least 5 times each month throughout the summer.

Healthy Lifestyle

Before my wedding last September I lost 50 lbs and I am extremely proud of myself for not only losing the weight but keeping it off over the winter months, because let’s be honest, it would have been very easy to gain it all back eating Christmas cookies. However, I still don’t consider myself “healthy”. So, this summer I want to take the time to make healthy homemade meals, be more active by walking and swimming, and spend more time outside in the sun.

Now don’t get me wrong, I read A LOT! I try to average at least 3 books each week. However, I’ve been limiting myself to ARCs or books I’ve promised to review. My TBR list is constantly growing because of all the amazing book bloggers I follow. Seriously, you guys really know how to sell a book. So I’m not reading books I want to read. That doesn’t mean I haven’t read some really good books but I feel obligated to read instead of wanting to read. So my goal this summer is for every 1 ARC or “needing a review” book I read, I’ll read 2 of my TBR books.

Well those are some of my challenges and goals for the summer. What about you? Do you have specific goals to accomplish this summer?

  1. I love the comment challenge! It’s so fun to linger at the same blog and get to know them in-depth, not because you have a lot in common but just to give them a chance, and I’ve not been disappointed yet. ♥️ I was reading about 8 books a month and only 1 or maybe 2 were books I wanted to read… so this year I made an effort to cut that back to 4 ARCs at the very most and I’ve been a lot happier reading and one month even got to a pinicle 13 books! So happy reading Anna! And congrats on losing that weight! 😆

    1. Thanks Dani! I really should cut back on ARCs. I feel guilty when I haven’t provided a review, even on a book I don’t want to read.

  2. Hi Anna, Welcome to the Comment Challenge! I’m so glad you’ve decided to join. I find that if I just take a moment to plan my day, I tend to be a lot more productive, too. I hope you accomplish all your summer goals. Happy commenting, Lonna (co-host)

    1. Thank you! It’s my first time being a part of the commenting challenge but it sounds like a great way to connect with multiple bloggers.
I can definitely understand how hard it is to keep up with commenting and reading on other blogs! I wish I had time to comment on every blog I read. There’s so much great content out there.

  4. Lovely goals!
I want to read more of ‘my own’ books too. I love reading e-ARCs, but I have a lot of books I’ve been trying to get to for a while now.
Also I want to be more active in the blogging community; read more blogs and comment more often.

    1. It’s so hard to find time to be active in the blogger community! Sometimes I feel it’s harder to follow blogs than it is to keep a blog. There’s just so much awesome content out there, I want to read it all haha.

    1. Making time is definitely the key! Summer is so busy to begin with but I think I’ll be able to make time to complete these goals.

  5. Love these goals you set on yourself! They appear to be simple but that’s what actually motivates, right? To have realistic goals, small steps at a time! Wish you all the best with them!! x
