Airplane Attire

Traveling isn’t easy. Anyone who says differently is a big fat liar isn’t telling the truth. Don’t get me wrong, I love to travel. But it can be daunting and it’s not usually comfortable. What you wear while traveling can definitely make all the difference. I’m here to offer help and suggestions on what to wear while traveling.

For Work

  • This can be difficult because you want to be presentable and you also want to be comfortable. If you don’t need to be at a meeting right when you land then you don’t really have to worry about what you wear.
    • Although I wouldn’t recommend wearing a swimsuit and flip-flops.
  • If you have a meeting make sure you wear business casual. You don’t want to have a delayed flight and then end up being late for your meeting arriving wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt.
  • If you’re not going to wear business casual then pack it!
    • Just pack an extra outfit. Takes up little space and it’s better to be safe than sorry.

For Pleasure

o Wear what’s comfortable
o You are going to be stuck in an extremely small space for hours. You don’t want to be uncomfortable.

Overseas/Longer than 3-4 Hours

  • Extremely comfortable
    • I’m talking sweatpants, t-shirt and sweatshirt, glasses instead of contacts, etc.
  • Socks
    • I’m weird and I can’t wear tennis shoes for more than 2 hours because my feet get claustrophobic. (Yes, I know that’s strange) So I take my shoes off right when I get on the plane and I put on a fresh pair of socks so my feet don’t get cold.
      • Please don’t do this if your feet stink!
  • Please pack extra deodorant
    • This is pretty self-explanatory but you don’t want to be stuck next to the smelly person for 8 hours. Don’t make the person next to you have to sit next to the smelly person either.
    •  This also includes not wearing too much perfume/cologne.

Going through Security

  • Have you ever been stuck behind the person who decides to wear all their metal jewelry, the most intricate shoes and then they have to take everything out of their bags?
    • Don’t be that person!
  • Wear things that slip off easily.
  • Do not wear metal.
    • Just put it in your bag. You will get it back in 10 minutes.
  • You will have to take off jackets and shoes. Plan accordingly.

Regardless of where, when or why I travel this is what I wear.

Tennis Shoes

• I wear tennis shoes that slip off easily so I don’t need to untie anything but I can also walk long distances without worrying about my feet hurting.

• Extra Socks

• I don’t wear jeans because I don’t find them comfortable enough to sit in for long periods of time. However I know many people who decide to wear jeans because they are easy and durable.
• I wear these leggings from Athleta, because they are durable, comfortable, black and they have several pockets with zippers.
• The only problem I’ve had with these is the zippers will sometimes set off security but it’s usually a small pat down and then I’m on my way. They are getting better about updating the security systems though.
• Pockets! Regardless of the pants you wear, you will want pockets.

§  I wear a comfortable t-shirt. Usually a solid color if I’m traveling for work.

Zip-Up Sweatshirt

• Something easy to take off and put on so you can go through security fast and you have something to wear on the plane where it’s usually freezing!

Do you wear something specific while traveling? How about any other suggestions? Let me know!
